Messezentrum Salzburg increases visitor numbers

In 2013 Messezentrum Salzburg welcomed 644,000 visitors from 18 countries; an increase of 7.1% on the previous business year of 2012. Messezentrum Salzburg is one of the top three expo venues in Austria and is the clear market leader in the B2B trade fair segment.

‘We are delighted with these developments and it’s obvious we’re heading in the right direction’, explained Messezentrum boss Henrik Häcker (Dipl.-Kfm.), whose mid-term goal is to expand this figure to 700,000 visitors. Last year more than 6800 exhibitors from 11 countries showcased their innovative goods and services on the premises of the venue. A total of over half a million square metres of exhibition space at Messezentrum Salzburg were rented out in 2013. Hence, the 36,625 square metres of the venue were occupied approximately 14 times over. "In particular, the new hall 10 was heavily frequented by both exhibitors and visitors, and it is a significant enhancement for the infrastructure at the facility", added Mr Häcker, who is also especially proud of the 3000m² photovoltaic system which was installed on the roofs of halls 2 and 6 in 2013 after a two-year planning period.

In total 32 trade fairs were held at the exhibition centre complex, 14 of which were staged by Salzburg Messezentrum’s most important customer, Reed Exhibitions Messe Salzburg. Another 18 public access and trade-only fairs were held by third-party organisers or organised and staged by Salzburg Messezentrum itself. Last year the growing trend at the ‘Messezentrum’ towards holding its own events was underlined by the staging of two very notable events - Austria’s largest expo for classic and vintage automobiles, the "Classic Expo", and for the first time the "Biker-s-World" motorcycle fair, which also features show elements. ‘We are constantly on the lookout for new trade fair themes and are open to new third-party event organisers to enhance our portfolio of trade fairs and public events", declared Mr Häcker, who continued by stating the goal of ‘offering a platform for innovation, a valuable contact network and consequently acting as a catalyst for development of the domestic economy." 

In 2014 the ‘Messezentrum’ is planning to hold more than ten of its own theme fairs. New additions include the ‘forst austria alpina’ and ‘hydropower alpina’; two congress fairs dealing with forest utilisation and hydroelectrics, taking place alongside the ‘aqua alta alpina’, a congress fair for the management of naturally occurring hazards from the 12th – 14th March. 2014 also sees the debut of the "Garten Salzburg" which features the latest decorative floral trends in gardening and is staged parallel to the ‘Auto Messe Salzburg’, a bona-fide crowd-puller on the 21st – 23rd March; and in the autumn there will be the new ‘Fit your body Salzburg’ fitness fair on the 10th – 12th October.

The Salzburgarena has also performed very satisfactorily as the most important concert and performance venue between Munich and Vienna, having been occupied on 52 event days and welcomed 95,000 visitors, despite the general downturn experienced in the concert sector in Austria and in neighbouring countries. In 2013 stars such as Joe Cocker, Sir Elton John, ex-Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler, Unheilig, Andreas Gabalier and Cirque du Soleilall performed at the Salzburgarena. In 2014 dates have already been arranged for Tim Bendzko (28.02.), James Blunt (19.03.), Semino Rossi (08.03.), Howard Carpendale (27.03.), The Australian Pink Floyd Show (11.05.) and Udo Jürgens (02.12.).
